Digital transformation has become a necessity in these times where organizations are shifting towards prominent techs such as robotics, IoT, cloud, and many more enhancing the consumer experience and services. 

But has this transformation been easy? Not really. The organizations have to walk through many difficulties that can challenge the success of this transformation. 

So, I am here today to reveal some of the reasons in the form of deadly sins which can be the cause of a failure in the digital transformation journey. 

Uncovering the deadly sins of digital transformation 

Your organization has to strictly avoid the below dangerous sins to accomplish the desired digital transformation success.  

Pride: Overconfidence leads to failure

To start with you’ll often find that organizations fail not due to low-quality software or executions but because of their overconfidence in regards to their own work processes. 

They tend to focus less on their processes since they believe them to be simply perfect and are filled up with unnecessary pride. It’s very unfortunate that they are not mindful of such ignorance that can lead to a huge failure. 

So, it is highly recommended that letting go of pride and taking the required organization responsibilities of improving work processes can lead to a better future.

Greed: You strive to achieve success instantly 

Have you wondered what happens when an organization gets more than it actually needs? 

Well, it fails in managing the overall functionalities of a company, also increasing the greed to achieve more and more success.

We have witnessed that organizations with such a condition do not succeed in conducting a successful digital transformation.  

Lust: You desire to have everything without putting in the right effort

While moving towards digital transformation, the enterprises will have to figure out whether they and their culture are ready to adopt the new initiatives or efforts which are needed in this journey.

Organizational Change Management (OCM) is crucial, particularly for big institutional change.

Some of the organizations do not take OCM seriously, but supposedly, if an organization invests in new technology, yet lacks the skills to adapt and execute it as visualized, then such an investment won’t be able to give the desired returns, and the change initiative will eventually fail.

Therefore, an organization cannot plan to gain everything at the present moment without having a proper visualization of embracing change and the needed efforts. 

Envy: You want excellent outcome just like your competitors without the right approach 

If a competitor successfully executes new technology and receives a good ROI, that does not mean that your organization can do the same by merely copying their efforts and actions. 

Although benchmarking is essential, yet your digital transformation needs to work within your organization’s culture. 

There must be a proper reflection of your organization’s value proposition for the consumers both at the present and in the future as well. 

It is seen that many of the organizations do not succeed in conducting their digital transformation as they fail to define necessary objectives and the right success measures.

Gluttony: You look forward to transform everything beyond necessity   

Digital transformations can be a complete disaster if the company professionals do not know to say no to something out of their capacity. 

I do agree that a digital transformation requires big changes to an enterprise, yet it doesn’t mean that everything about how the organization functions will change at once. 

Therefore, it's improper to say yes to anything without even realizing the company's ability to execute it in a real sense. 

Rather one needs to work with a foolproof plan that is practically possible to achieve in order to witness a successful digital transformation. 

Wrath: You aren’t ready to learn from your failure 

To successfully plan out the digital transformation, trust-building among the different teams of an organization is necessary.

So, at the time of failure, despite blaming each other, they can find the root cause and resolve it at the core.

But unfortunately, this is something that isn’t found in the organization, and as a result, it leads to a failure in digital transformation. 

Sloth: You disagree to adopt the latest trends, letting you stay behind 

Organizations should embrace change and smartly handle the disturbance that comes along the path of digital transformation.

It’s every organization’s responsibility to be aware of the technological developments of the current times and efficiently take the right decisions by adopting the latest trends and techniques.

But honestly, organizations fail to make such right approaches and suffer eventually during the transformation process.

Well, to put it simply, the leaders need to adopt the right business approaches and processes that can be well practiced to overcome the barriers of a successful digital transformation.
