While sitting at home, sipping the best cup of coffee, some of us are not even aware of the struggles of the world. At OpenSense Labs, we have Thuyamani, who comes from Chennai and has had a life full of struggles. I’m sure that after reading this one, you will be left in awe of his inspiring journey.
Tuba: Hi Thuyamani! I’ve heard you were an HR, and now you are a flutter developer. So, what did you actually pursue in college?
Thuyamani: I did Btech in computer science from a college in Jaipur. There was a point in my life where I did not have a job and a friend of mine told me there is an HR opening in Noida. So I went there and started working as an HR. I wasn’t interested in being one though.
Tuba: So what were your plans in college about the future. There has to be something that you always wanted to do?
Thuyamani: My college life has been a big struggle. During the first year, I gained a lot of interest in studies and also participated in extracurricular activities. I started making robots. It wasn’t a part of my studies but I still did it because I liked it. My college staff got to know about it and I had to face a lot of problems because of some misunderstandings. I did not have much support left from both my family and my college. My father passed away at the same time. This news came as a big shock to me.
Tuba: So sorry to hear about that.
Thuyamani: It’s alright.
Tuba: What did you do after your college was over?
Thuyamani: I started working in a BPO organization. After 3 months of working there, I had an infection in my right eye due to which I lost the complete vision of the eye. The treatments and surgery took almost two years of my life. Eventually, my eye got better but my mental health was deteriorating.
Tuba: This is really sad. How did you cope with all the depression and anxiety?
Thuyamani: I never wanted to give up. But there was a time when giving up seemed like the only option. I made earning a living the top priority. That’s when I went to Noida and started doing the HR job. But even after having a job I was slowly going into depression and started getting anxiety attacks.
I did the course on front end development on the weekends and continued my job on the weekdays. After I was done with my course, I went back home, contacted a therapist, and started taking therapy. That’s when things started to get better.
Tuba: How did you get to know about OpenSense Labs?
Thuyamani: After the therapy, I was still hopeless about getting a job. I applied for a lot of internships and jobs. Luckily, I got a call from OpenSense Labs. And here I am, working as a Flutter developer intern.
Tuba: How is your experience working with OSL?
Thuyamani: I am very happy. I’m learning a lot and looking forward to being hired as a fulltime employee. Everyone at OSL was very welcoming and helped me along the way. I really like the environment here and I’m working hard and I feel like this is what I want to do.
Tuba: That’s great! I’m sure you are doing a great job.
Thank you for your time, Thuyamani. I’m taking away a lot from this conversation. Your story is truly inspiring and I’m sure you are going to be an inspiration to a lot of the readers here.
I believe that all of us have the strength to overcome obstacles. All you need to do is believe in yourself and keep going. Not all problems come with life or death scenarios. But Thuyamani’s message is about never giving up, even though the failures seem inescapable. Even if there is very little chance of success, there is always hope that your efforts won’t go in vain.
Another very important message that Thuyamani gives us is that mental health should be talked about. Do not ignore the signs and talk to someone. Maybe a therapist, a friend, or someone you trust.
OpenSense Labs encourages newbies or even the most experienced ones. We make sure that our team members are not alone and that there is no pressure on them. We work as a team and make sure that everyone feels at home with us.
