Challenges And Objectives

Intake Education faced several challenges with their existing web presence:

  • Unification Of 9 Sites: UKEAS maintained nine separate websites, each catering to their specific business presence in various regions. This decentralized approach presented significant challenges in terms of support, maintenance, and cost. The primary objective was to consolidate these regionally focused sites onto a single, unified platform.

  • Elimination Of Data Redundancy: Updating information across nine different sites was inefficient and created data redundancy. Streamlining this process was a key objective.

  • Rebranding And Modernization: The outdated, hand-coded PHP website required a complete redesign and rebranding to reflect the new Intake Education identity.

  • Multilingual Functionality: Serving a global audience required multilingual support for content in various languages, including Simplified Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai.

OpenSense Labs Approach

OpenSense Labs implemented a comprehensive solution leveraging Drupal 9 and a strategic approach:

  • Discovery: A two-week discovery phase identified key challenges, current functionalities, and future requirements, creating a detailed project roadmap.

  • Content Schema Definition: Content entities were defined and created within Drupal 9 to manage diverse content types for Intake Education including granular control over display by country, language, and publishing options.

  • Atomic Design: An atomic design methodology was adopted for front-end development, enabling faster prototyping, consistent code, and efficient updates.

  • Third-Party Integrations: Third-party integrations, including a Course Catalogue API and chatbots powered by The Ambassador Platform, were implemented using iFrames to facilitate student registration.

  • Multilingual Module Installation: Drupal 9's Multilingual module was installed to personalize the user experience by displaying content in the user's chosen language.

  • Location Intelligence: Location intelligence was integrated to personalize content based on the user's location, enabling targeted display of relevant schools and universities.

  • Hybrid Agile And Waterfall Methodology: A hybrid Agile and Waterfall methodology, incorporating Kanban within the Scrum framework, provided flexibility and responsiveness to evolving project needs.

  • Cross-Functional Team: A cross-functional team, consisting of OpenSense Labs developers, an in-house team of Intake Education and the Course Catalogue development team, ensured seamless collaboration.

The Outcome

UKEAS was successfully rebranded and relaunched as Intake Education, a modern and impactful platform. The project achieved:

  • Unified Platform: All nine websites were consolidated into a single, easily manageable platform.

  • Lower Maintenance Cost: This unification directly resulted in a substantial reduction in site numbers, leading to lower maintenance costs and streamlined support.

  • Increased Marketing Footfall: The new platform saw an increase in marketing traffic.

  • Improved Conversion Rates: The dedicated partner site and streamlined user experience contributed to higher conversion rates.

  • On-Time Delivery: The project was completed seamlessly and launched on time.

Following the successful website rebuild and rebranding, Intake Education announced its acquisition by IDP Education in September 2022. This strategic move brings together two leading international education brands, creating a clear global leader in the sector.  The combined strengths of IDP and Intake will further enhance their ability to support students in achieving their international education goals.
